Collaborative glass art exposition DIALOGUE: UPON THE EVOCATION OF MEMORIES
Glass artists: Suojia Zhang and Ernest Vitin
This is a concept of the collaborative exposition "Dialogue: Upon the evocation of memories" of two artists Suoija Zhang (China) and Ernest Vitin (Latvia) for an international glass art exhibition "Voice of Glass. Collaborative" at the Riga Bourse Art Museum (Riga Old Town, Latvia) from the 22nd of January to 28th of March, 2021.

The works of the glass artists are facing each other as in a dialogue. An act illustrative of the central concept of the exhibition - collaboration. In this case collaboration is a remote dialogue between the artists; between Latvia and China; hot and cold glass working techniques. The dialogue is about, on the one hand - what has been, on the other - who have been. Affection and understanding of each other's experience arise from the understanding of the process of evocation of memories within oneself.
The grief associated with the demolition of the artist Suojia Zhang's birthplace is depicted in the form of a hundred-year-old red brick cast in glass. Each brick bears an imprint of the artist's spiritual homeland - 青岛 (Quingdao) - the name of the city. On the other hand, the layered glass monument, which bears the family name of Ernest Vītiņš - Vītiņi, represents equivalent feelings of unfillable emptiness when a beloved person will nevermore be seen walking this earth again. Between them is a pile of sand, which is both a paraphrase of a construction site where the last evidence of old architecture has collapsed in the form of the cast glass bricks, as well as the characteristic sand on the gravesite.
The dialogue forms a space enclosed on both sides by large sheets of glass. Rice papers attached to both glass sheets are shipped from China. The lines on them are drawn with traditional Chinese ink and a calligraphy brush.
The glass sheet with a horizontally placed rice paper is covered with ash as a paraphrase about the exposure of memories to the destructive effects of time. The ash comes from the furnaces of Ernest's family house, which his grandparents bought nearly a century ago and which might get demolished during the time of this exhibition to enable the construction of a new family home that meets this time and needs. The horizontal line is a path through the dimensions maintained by the mind - past (memories) and future (fantasies). The glass sheet with the vertical rice paper is clean, symbolizing the presence of the mind in the present and the associated understanding and peace. The vertical line carries the message that time is not relevant, the depth of experience is.
INVITATION: we hope you would draw your meaningful testimony onto this dusty glass sheet - something that symbolizes your personal spiritual home, place, or person who presently lives in your memories. In doing so, observe the process of evoking memories in yourself - where they derive from, how it makes you feel, how strongly they take over your whole being at the moment. And then, don't forget to be thankful for what you have had and what you have right now!

Stikla mākslas ekspozīcija "Dialogs: par atmiņu atmodināšanu"
Stikla mākslinieki Suoija Zhang (Ķīna) un Ernests Vītiņš (Latvija)
Šī ir divu stikla mākslinieku Suoija Zhang (Ķīna) un Ernesta Vītiņa (Latvija) ekspozīcijas "Dialogs: par atmiņu atmodināšanu" koncepcija starptautiskai stikla mākslas izstādei "Stikla Balss. Sadarbība" Mākslas muzejā Rīgas Birža no 2021. gada 22. janvārim - 28. martam.
Mākslinieku darbi novietoti viens otram iepretim - dialogā. Šādi tiek tēlaini pausts šīs izstādes vadošais motīvs - sadarbība. Šajā gadījumā, sadarbība kā attālināts dialogs starp māksliniekiem; Latviju un Ķīnu; karsto un auksto stikla apstrādes tehniku. Dialogā no vienas puses - tas, kas bijis, no otras - tie, kuri bijuši. Tuvība un izpratne par otra pārdzīvojumu rodas izprotot atmiņu atmodināšanas norisi sevī. Mākslinieka Suojia Zhang skumjas par dzimtās vecpilsētas nojaukšanu ir atainotas simts gadus veca sarkanā ķieģeļa stikla atlējuma formā. Katrs ķieģelis nes pilsētas nospiedumu - 青岛 (Quingdao) - mākslinieka garīgās dzimtenes vārdu. Savukārt, stikla krāvuma piemineklis, kas nes Ernesta Vītiņa dzimtas vārdu - Vītiņi, reprezentē līdzvērtīgu - neaizpildāmu tukšumu, kad kāds mīlēts cilvēks vairs nekad nebūs sastopams šai pasaulē. Pa vidu tiem ir smilšu kaudze, kas vienlīdz ir gan kā parafrāze par būvlaukumu, kurā sabirušas vēl pēdējās liecības par veco arhitektūru, stikla ķieģeļu veidā, gan arī kā kapa vietas smiltājs. Dialogs veido telpu, ko no abām pusēm ietver lielas stikla loksnes. Uz abām loksnēm piestiprināti no Ķīnas atsūtītie rīspapīri. Līnijas uz tiem vilktas ar tradicionālo Ķīniešu tinti un kaligrāfijas otu. Stikla loksne ar horizontālo rīspapīra lapu ir noklāta ar pelniem, kas parafrāzē atmiņu pakļautību laika destruktīvajai iedarbībai. Pelni ir no Ernesta dzimtas mājas krāsnīm, kuru viņa vecvecvecāki iegādājās gandrīz simts gadus atpakaļ un, kas, iespējams, jau izstādes norises laikā tiks nojaukta, lai taptu jauna ģimenes ēka, atbilstoša šim laikam un vajadzībām. Horizontālā līnija atklājas kā ceļš caur prāta uzturētām dimensijām - pagātni (atmiņām) un nākotni (fantāzijām). Stikla loksne ar vertikālo rīspapīra lapu ir tīra, simbolizējot prāta klātbūtni tagadnē un ar to saistīto izpratni un mieru. Vertikālā līnija nes vēstījumu, ka laiks nav aktuāls, bet pieredzes dziļums ir.
