MONUMENTAL STACKED GLASS SCULPTURE

Nefertiti (2024) embodies the grace, wisdom, and power of one of history’s most iconic queens. This monumental representation of Nefertiti's face, in stacked glass, is inspired by the famous bust, currently the most famous artefact of the Neues Museum in Berlin. In response to the contemporary trend towards conceptualisation in art, this sculpture marks a new facet in the artist’s work – from abstract to figurative.

The sculpture is a statement for humanity, informed by exact basic mechanisms and needs underpinning all humans, symbolized by Nefertiti’s gaze, and a celebration of traditional, masterful artistry instead of prevailing interpretative, text-heavy deconstructions with aesthetically simplified output.

The subtle downward tilt of Nefertiti’s gaze is widely agreed to exude regal detachment, while at the same time – serenity. The queen's gaze may be interpreted as humane and graceful, combining both the social distance that comes with royal status and openness – a personal psychological state that fosters empathy and serenity. Studies in nonverbal communication confirm that eye contact and gaze convey emotions and intentions universally. Research in psychology and neuroscience supports the idea that humans intuitively "read" others' feelings and intentions through their eyes. Nefertiti, invites us to reflect on our own gaze.
